Todays Monday Motivation post features singer-comedian Tim Minchin. Famed for his messy hair and musical comedy (not necessarily in that order), the British-born Australian took to the podium to deliver a graduation speech to The University of Western Australia. Delivered with his trademark wit and humour, Minchin imparts some key life lessons to his student audience that actually are rather useful in the business world – especially if you’re starting your own business.
The key notes to take away from his talk:
1. You don’t have to have a dream.
2. Don’t seek happiness.
3. Remember, it’s all luck.
5. Be hard on your opinions.
6. Be a teacher.
7. Define yourself by what you love.
8. Respect people with less power than you.
9. Don’t rush.
Another Monday motivation post, this time from polar explorer Ben Saunders. Ben talks about pushing boundaries and chasing personal goals.
As a Creative Design Studio, we work with a lot of startup businesses looking for branding and the like. The passion our clients have for succeeding is infectious and does rub off on us – after all, Chips and Gravy Studios has faced hardships as startup ourselves. But a few weeks back I got in touch with a client of ours to ensure everything was ok with their new website and they told me they we’re happy with the website but struggling with their new career choice. Leaving a relatively comfy job to pursue their own business was risky and they were starting to feel the pinch. Knowing that feeling, I sent them a video that a friend sent me last year; something i play every now again when the going gets tough. The next morning they emailed back with a simple “Thank You :)”
