5 Business Books Every Business Owner Must Read in 2015

With Christmas just around the corner i thought a run down of the five business books i feel every small business owner, entrepreneur or startup founder should read. These are my personal recommendations and hope you enjoy them too.

The $100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau

I recently read The $100 Startup after numerous recommendations and it didn’t fail to deliver. Guillebeau makes a great case for creative thinking and how you can (and should) make use of your natural talent or favourite hobby to start your own business. The book is filled with case studies from a variety of entrepreneurs who built businesses earning more than $50,000 from , yes you guessed it, $100 or less. If you’re interested in starting a small business that allows you to lead a the lifestyle you’ve always dreamed of but not sure if your ideas will work then this is the book the book for you.

Stop Thinking Like a Freelancer: The Evolution of a $1M Web Designer by Liam Veitch

Author Liam Veitch takes you through chapter after chapter of content and ideas that’s actionable. Telling you the story of his struggle to success, inter-weaved with case studies from other successful freelancers, Stop Thinking Like a Freelancer helps you to look at your existing online content, turn it on it’s head and make it more profitable.

The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss

It’s difficult to read The 4-Hour Workweek without feeling uber motivated . The book is fun, inspirational and quite motivational. Essentially, the book teaches you, in a detail, how to create an automated income-generator that leaves you free to do the stuff you really want to do. Although geared mainly at web businesses, i think most businesses owners can learn valuable lessons from Ferriss

Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuk

Social Media is key for your business in helping you to reach out to potential clients. Vaynerchuk has treated this book more as an instructional manual by including lots of examples on how to do your social-media marketing the right way, case studies of how it’s been done wrong and provides you with the right tools to market via your social media outlets.

Get Off Your Arse by Brad Burton

From pizza deliveryman to running the UK’s fastest networking platform, Brad’s biographical book is both funny and inspirational but also has a hell of a lot of worthwhile advice thrown in. With his no-nonsense, no-holds barred, approach to story telling Get Off Your Arse is an essential for anyone’s reading list. Brad’s other two other books, Get Off Your Arse Too and Life. Business.: Just Got Easier, promise to be just as good although i haven’t read them yet.

If you don’t have this website bookmarked then you should rectify that immediately. TED, is a database of inspirational, educational or just downright informative talks from a host of experts in their field, from celebrity chefs to polar explorers. Watch on video a day for your daily dose of inspiration.

Twitter

Twitter should need no introduction because, to be honest, you’re more than likely already using this powerful networking tool (and if you’re not, you should be). But spend a bit of time on Twitter away from promoting your own business and instead connect with new people and businesses, and watch your timeline for interesting articles.
